Wildflower Project: Dining Area and Drop Zone

The homeowners of this project love to entertain and it was very important to them that they had space to do so. Their dining area was on the smaller side so we had to be creative with the space. It was also home to their, what I like to call, “drop zone.” You know, the area where all the things get collected when everyone comes home from somewhere… that place.

We decided to utilize the blank wall on the inside of their space with a hall tree. A perfect piece of furniture that doesn’t have to be bulky yet adds a ton of storage. We added baskets along the top and in the cubbies below to house shoes, knick knacks and toys. The baskets above can be used for winter gear, mail and hats.

BEFORE

We decided on an expandable table for the dining area so when they do have guests over there is enough space for everyone. The table can be easily sized back down so they can maintain space in the area for day to day living. With a love for a good pop of color, our client chose fun modern turquoise chairs to add around their black table.

Finding a way to conceal clutter and add more space for entertaining in an already smaller space was a fun challenge!
